Skaters, Scooters and Rollerbladers performing this weekend in Nailsea
This Saturday (24th July) sees the annual Nailsea Community Skate Festival take place at Nailsea’s Scotch Horn Skate park. For many youngsters from Nailsea and surrounding areas it’s their only chance to enter a skateboard competition against their friends, with the support of the local community as well as family and friends.
It’s an extremely popular event which is now entering its eighth year and once again we thank all those involved in the organisation and sponsoring of this. This year’s event will see for the 1st time Scooter categories, for both the 12’s and under and the 13+.
The event is organised by Holy Trinity and Trendlewood churches in partnership with Christian Surfers UK and is supported by Nailsea Town Council, Nailsea Community Trust and other key community bodies within the town.
As well as this years top class skate competition which will be taking place at Nailsea Scotch Horn Park, there will also be other community attractions such as face painting, volley ball, and various refreshment options from BBQ to pancakes.
As well as a DJ throughout the afternoon, there will be live music with singer song writer Tasha McCoy, and Bristol based five piece indie band ‘Diego’.
If you’re interested in getting an application form in advance, please email phil@christiansurfers.co.uk or download it from www.skatefestival.co.uk. For those competitors who have previously been involved, they should be getting an entry form directly via email.
If you’d like to get involved in any form of sponsorship for this great community festival then please get in contact with Phil (E-mail address below).
The Contest starts at around 1.30pm (Registration from 12.30 pm) and runs through to 6pm, with the finals taking place around 5pm. Last year saw an entry of over 40 in the various categories with 300 - 400 spectators for most of the event, as they enjoyed a beautiful warm summer’s day.
In order to encourage the younger age group to get involved, there are also categories for 12’s and under in both Skateboarding and Rollerblading events. With great prizes, and entry costs of £1 or £2 depending on age group, there should be a strong turn out again this year.
We are looking forward to a great weekend where the local youngsters can perform to a very appreciative crowd, showcase their skills, and highlight a really positive example of youth activity in the town.
